Panel Session 02
Bangladesh into Future: A Global Sourcing Hub
Thursday, Apr 17, 2025 from 02:00 PM – 03:00 PM
About This Session
Bangladesh has firmly positioned itself as a global leader in apparel and textile manufacturing, supplying some of the world’s largest fashion brands while driving innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. In 2025, apparel exports surpassed $50 billion, contributing to over 84% of the country’s total exports, making Bangladesh the second-largest garment exporter in the world after China (WTO). The industry directly employs over 4.5 million workers, with women accounting for nearly 60% of the workforce, significantly impacting economic empowerment and social development.
The sector has rapidly evolved to meet changing consumer demands, sustainability imperatives, digitalization, and trade policy shifts. With over 200 LEED-certified green garment factories, Bangladesh has the highest number of environmentally sustainable factories globally (BGMEA). The country has also pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, aligning with the EU Green Deal and global climate goals.
Despite this progress, challenges remain. As Bangladesh graduates from Least Developed Country (LDC) status by 2026, the apparel industry must navigate new trade regulations, the potential loss of duty-free market access, and increasing competition from emerging manufacturing hubs. To sustain its growth and competitiveness, Bangladesh must further invest in value-added products, technological innovation, and sustainable production.
This panel will bring together industry leaders from across the apparel value chain—brands, manufacturers, policymakers, associations, and innovators—to discuss the opportunities, challenges, and strategic roadmap for Bangladesh as a future-ready global sourcing hub.
