Fireside Chat 01
Thursday, Apr 17, 2025 from 03:15 PM – 04:00 PM
Bangladesh is embarking on a transformative journey toward a green, fair, and inclusive transition—one that balances robust industrial progress with social equity and environmental responsibility.
As key sectors—notably apparel, which contributes over 11% to GDP, and construction, a major driver of urban growth—continue to fuel economic momentum, they also face mounting pressures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (with the textile sector alone accounting for roughly 15% of national industrial emissions) while ensuring dignified work conditions and fair labor practices. This Fireside Chat brings together leading industry figures, government officials, and international development partners to explore how just transitions can meet workers and communities where they are.
Building on the successful launch of the Just Transition Forum for Bangladesh in January—and informed by the vision and priorities championed by Laudes Foundation—this session will explore how local industries can lead climate action through inclusive strategies that center worker agency, social dialogue, accountability, and climate resilience. While decarbonization and climate-smart solutions remain key elements, the conversation will emphasize the need to co-design and implement transition plans with those most affected—businesses, communities, and especially workers. In parallel, the discussion will examine the critical role of government in creating enabling policies and incentives, and how international partnerships can support Bangladesh’s emergence as a globally competitive and socially responsible market.
By integrating lived industry experiences with inclusive policy frameworks and cross-border collaboration, this session aims to present a pragmatic roadmap for embedding sustainability, equity, and long-term resilience into the heart of Bangladesh’s economic future.
