Apparel/Textiles

Bangladesh is the 2nd largest exporter of garments in the world. Almost 80% of the country's export revenue comes from RMG industry alone. The high demand for Bangladeshi garments increased its overall exports by 35.47% to $42.61 billion in FY 2021–22. Knitwear exports grew 36.88% YOY to $23.21 billion, while Woven garment exports rose 33.82% to $19.40 billion. The Best of Bangladesh in Europe aims to showcase these success stories to international buyers, brands, and distributors.

Light Engineering, Electronic

Bangladesh's Light Engineering Sector (LES) delivered an outstanding 81% increase in overseas shipments in FY 2020–21. The automobile industry has grown at a rate of 8% per year, reaching a value of $1 billion. The BRTA reported 32,942 registered passenger vehicles in 2017, indicating a promising upward trend for the sector.

Leather

The leather industry in Bangladesh shows incredible potential, with a steady increase in exports since 2010—a trend that continues to rise. The country earned a record-breaking $1.25 billion in export revenue from leather and leather goods in FY2021–22, a solid 32% increase from the previous fiscal year!

Agro-Food

Agro-Food is increasingly becoming a prominent part of Bangladesh's export portfolio. The agricultural industry has a high prospect of boosting the country's external trade. In FY 2021–2022, agricultural goods and their relevant processed foods generated foreign exchange earnings of US$1.16 billion, marking a 13.04% increase over the previous year.

Jute

Bangladesh's jute and jute goods exports totaled $1,127.63 million in FY21. While most industries saw a significant drop in exports during the COVID-19 pandemic, the jute industry's export earnings increased by 8.10% to $882.35 million in FY20 due to rising demand for eco-friendly products, making it the 2nd largest export earner after RMG.

Digital Industry

Bangladesh's digital industry is thriving with a primary focus on outsourcing Information Technology (IT) services. FY22 marked an outstanding $596 million in IT exports, displaying a remarkable 95% year-on-year growth. According to BASIS estimates, the unofficial annual earnings from the IT sector are now over $1.3 billion. As the world shifts toward a more digital economy, Bangladesh looks forward to flourishing in this sector.

FMCG

Bangladesh's Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector is steadily expanding, with gross sales going from $3.7 billion in FY21 to $3.9 billion in FY22. Frozen food accounts for roughly 23% of the country's total agricultural exports. Shrimp exports alone account for approximately 90% of total frozen food exports—nearly 4.43% of the country's GDP, which is soon expected to rise to 10%.

Pharmaceutical/ Health

Bangladesh is committed to delivering affordable and accessible healthcare. The country is proud to be the only LDC meeting nearly 98% of the domestic pharmaceutical demand of its $3 billion market. The Health Care segment's annual growth rate (CAGR 2023-2027) is estimated to be an impressive 27.65%!

Ceramic

The Bangladeshi ceramics industry has grown at a double-digit rate over the last decade. The recent government incentive of 10% cash on exports is likely to further increase ceramic product exports. Experts predict that exports in this sector will reach $1 billion by 2025.

Bicycle

Bangladesh is currently the 3rd largest bicycle exporter to the European Union and the 8th largest exporter globally. Following COVID-19, the bicycle industry's exports in FY2020–21 totaled around USD 130 million, a 50% increase over the previous year.

During the July-January period of FY2020–21, handicraft exports rose by 48.22 percent and earned US$19.61 million. The country earned $20.52 million during FY 2019–20 and $19.95 million in FY 2018–19.

Engineering

MFS transactions have increased by about 30% YOY, with 85 million registered accounts. Agent banking has also seen a steep rise post-pandemic, with a 108.38% YoY deposit increase and the addition of more than 6 million bank accounts.
